HLAYISEKO'S STORY

Hlayiseko has an advanced form of Cerebral Palsy. Cerebral palsy is a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture. CP is the most common motor disability in childhood. Cerebral means having to do with the brain. Palsy means weakness or problems with using the muscles. CP is caused by abnormal brain development or damage to the developing brain that affects a person’s ability to control his or her muscles. Hlayiseko has a very advanced case of CP she is unable to feed her self, sit properly and struggles to communicate.

HER PACKAGE: HOW WE HAVE HELPED

1 YEARS SUPPLY

We have supplied Hlayiseko with a years supply of reusable sanitary products to reduce the financial costs on her family. Furthermore, as a growing 16 year old it is important for Hlayiseko to be a confident young woman so we have provided her with a number of other gifts.

SUPPORT FOR FAMILY

Hlayiseko has a 12 year old younger sister who has taken on a number of adult responsibilities to help support her sister. We have provided her with new school uniform and other necessities.

ASSISTIVE DEVICE

Hlayiseko lost her ability to communicate at a young age. Her speech is impaired and she struggles to communicate with those around her. We have provided her with an assistive tablet that will allow her to select images, numbers and letters which will enable her to express herself.
